SL Field Formatting

Pain-free customisation of ExpressionEngine's default field formatting options.

Overview

Let’s be honest, creating weblog fields with custom formatting in ExpressionEngine is a pain.

Create the field, save it, open it for editing, click “Edit List” to update the available formatting options, dismiss the warning dialogue, update the formatting selections, save the form, select the required formatting from the new list of available options, save the field, sob quietly, repeat.

A better way

SL Field Formatting can ease your suffering.

It’s the pain-free way to specify the default list of formatting options that will appear for all new weblog fields.

Better yet, if you already have a bunch of fields in your database, SL Field Formatting will update the formatting options for each field, whilst respecting the currently selected formatting.

Requirements

SL Field Formatting makes use of Leevi Graham’s LG Addon Updater extension to keep you informed about updates and bug fixes, but will function perfectly well without it.

Installation and Upgrading

The SL Field Formatting ZIP file contains a single system folder. Within that you’ll find the extensions and language folders. Here’s how to install the extension:

1. Extract the ZIP file.
2. Copy the system/extensions/ext.sl_field_formatting.php file to your /system/extensions/ directory.
3. Copy the system/language/english/lang.sl_field_formatting.php file to your /system/languages/english/ directory.
4. If you’re installing SL Field Formatting for the first time, open the Extensions Manager, and enable the extension.

Configuration

Configuration is easy — just select the required formatting options, click save, and you’re done.

If you don’t select any options, the extension will exercise a bit of common sense and leave everything unchanged.
